Common questions

Insurance made simple

How do I know if nutrition counseling is covered?

Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask: "Is medical nutrition therapy (MNT) covered under my plan, and do I need a referral?" We can also help verify your benefits when you call our office.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

Some insurance plans require a physician referral for nutrition counseling, while others do not. This varies by plan and by the condition being treated. We recommend checking with your plan before booking your first appointment.

What conditions are typically covered?

Most plans cover nutrition counseling for medically diagnosed conditions such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, cardiovascular disease, digestive conditions (IBS, IBD, celiac), obesity, and autoimmune diseases. Coverage varies by plan.

What if my insurance is not listed?

Please call us before assuming you are not covered. We may be able to work with your plan as an out-of-network provider, or we can provide a superbill for you to submit for reimbursement. We also offer affordable self-pay rates.

Will I owe a copay or deductible?

Depending on your plan, you may owe a copay per session or have services applied toward your deductible. We encourage you to verify your specific cost-sharing obligations with your insurance before your first appointment.

How does billing work?

We handle all insurance billing on your behalf. After your session, we submit a claim directly to your insurance company. You are responsible only for any applicable copay, coinsurance, or deductible amounts per your plan.

Self-pay options

No insurance? We still have options.

If you do not have insurance coverage for nutrition counseling, or if you prefer to pay out of pocket, we offer transparent, straightforward session rates.

Many clients also use HSA (Health Savings Account) or FSA (Flexible Spending Account) funds to cover nutrition counseling sessions — check with your plan administrator to confirm eligibility.

We believe that the women who need specialized care the most should be able to access it. If cost is a barrier, please reach out — we will do our best to find a solution that works for you.
